Chris Pratt and Charlie Day are on a promotional run for the film The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is a sequel to the smash-hit animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The film will be released in theaters on April 1, 2026. The duo is back again to voice the iconic characters, Mario and Luigi. However, the Mario franchise isn’t the only time the pair have worked together on a movie, but unfortunately, Pratt was missing from the final cut.
Chris Pratt and Charlie Day have known each other for “many years”
Pratt and Day have had a long working relationship. Now, you might be wondering—they probably got to know each other on the sets of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, since this is the only time the pair have shared credits in a film. But that wasn’t the case, as both actors crossed paths more than one and a half decades ago, as revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
While discussing their upcoming movie, both actors were asked by Fallon how long they had known each other. “I want to say many years. We have known each other well for like five or six years,” Pratt said.
Thereafter, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star interjected and said that they had met “ages ago” in the 2010 romantic comedy film Going the Distance, where Pratt played a tiny part. But unfortunately for Pratt, the role was cut from the movie. Interestingly, the Jurassic World actor shot the scene with Charlie Day’s wife, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and it took place on an airplane.
“It’s called Going the Distance. I was cut out of the movie. I did one scene. I was on an airplane next to your darling wife, I believe. She and I were doing a scene together, and then I kind of forgot about it. I never saw myself in a movie; I was very excited. Got the team gathered….. then I was cut out of this movie,” the Guardians of the Galaxy star recalled.
Nevertheless, the pair’s working relationship has carried forward from their first movie with shared credits, and now it remains to be seen if the Mario sequel will be another blockbuster. And who knows, maybe the third installment will have them working together again.
