The inner workings of the oppressive regime of Gilead will be explored further in the sequel to the hit original series The Handmaid’s Tale. The One Battle After Another star Chase Infiniti will play the role of Hannah, the long-lost daughter of the original series’ lead protagonist, June. In a recent interview, the actress spoke about the weight of responsibility on her shoulders as she carries forward the legacy of such a pivotal character.
Chase Infiniti did extensive research to prepare for the role
The actress is currently promoting The Testaments, a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, which is scheduled to premiere on Hulu on April 8, 2026. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she spoke about how important the character is to the show’s fanbase and explained her approach to the role.
“Oh, I felt such a responsibility stepping into the role of Agnes or Hannah. I know how loved she is within the entire fandom of The Handmaid’s Tale. I really wanted to make sure I did right by her. I did right by the fans. I did right by the story. And I really did all of my research and preparations beforehand,” she said.
The fanbase indeed has a deep connection to the character, as she serves as an emotional anchor for June. In fact, she is one of the principal reasons the lead protagonist of the original series continues to fight against Gilead and makes repeated efforts to rescue her daughter from the oppressive regime.
In The Testaments, Hannah, also known as Agnes, who was taken away from June by Gilead and raised in a Commander’s family, becomes a lens into how the deeply patriarchal regime conditions children and how cracks gradually begin to form in her belief system, ultimately leading her to challenge the authoritarian establishment.
Along with Agnes, the story will also follow Nicole, a teenage girl growing up outside Gilead who is pulled into a larger mission connected to the regime, and Aunt Lydia, a powerful authority figure within Gilead who was also a central character in The Handmaid’s Tale.
