Brazilian soccer player Jorginho got into an online spat with American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan over security personnel’s handling of his 11-year-old stepdaughter, Ada Law. The incident reportedly took place at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil. In the latest development, Chappell Roan has issued a clarification, protesting her innocence and denying any involvement in the incident.
Chappell Roan denies her security was involved in alleged confrontation with mother and child
In an Instagram post, the ex-Arsenal player accused Roan’s security guard of being rude and aggressive toward his wife and stepdaughter at a São Paulo hotel. He further stated that his stepdaughter, a fan of Roan, walked past the singer’s table during breakfast, smiled, and returned to her seat without attempting to make any contact. He explained that his stepdaughter’s actions did not warrant such a disproportionate response from the security guard.
Roan was in the country for the Lollapalooza Brazil music festival when the controversy occurred. Incidentally, the Flamengo player’s wife, Catherine Harding, and daughter were also attending the event. The American singer has now responded, denying the claims made by Jorginho.
“I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me. Like, I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel. I think these people were staying at the hotel as well. So the fact that like, a security guard who is [not my personal security]—I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child,” Roan wrote on Instagram.
She further said that she does not “hate children” and implied that she would not behave rudely with fans of her music. Nonetheless, she said she felt sorry that Harding and her daughter had to go through the ordeal.
“They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe that, because there’s no action even taken. And I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy.”
Ada Law is the daughter of Harding and British actor Jude Law. Law and Harding split in 2015 after a brief relationship, following which she later married the Brazilian footballer.
