As reported by The Wrap, Billie Eilish is currently eyeing a role in a film adaptation based on Sylvia Plath’s novel The Bell Jar. The 1963 novel is semi-autobiographical in nature and follows the story of Esther Greenwood. She is a budding writer who is invited to New York to enroll in a summer internship.
Set in the 1950s, the novel explores Greenwood’s struggles and her journey as she battles deteriorating mental health. The adaptation will be directed by Sarah Polley, who has directed Splice, Away from Her, and Stories We Tell.
Eilish, too, has worked as an actress previously, which not a lot of people are aware of. For the 2010 movie The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, she provided ADR. She also appeared in the 2023 horror series Swarm. where she played the role of Eva.
Also, she has worked on multiple documentaries covering her tour and journey as a musical artist. In 2021, she was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight. When asked about her views on acting, she said:
“I used to say that I hated acting. But the truth is, when I was little, I loved it! My mom and dad were both actors. So is my brother, Finneas. And it was my dream to be in a movie. And I remember when that dream died.”
It is interesting indeed how it all played out. Billie Eilish surely gave some of her best performances as a background and onscreen actor. In fact, fans totally see her starring in a horror movie. It makes sense considering her aesthetic and, now, her decision to collaborate with Sarah Folley.
