The Spider-Verse fans are in for a treat if the producers of the third installment are to be believed. The third and final film in the franchise, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently in development, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller have shared some exciting updates about the animated saga. The project’s backers have promised a “special” experience for the fandom, raising expectations for what could be a fitting conclusion to the beloved trilogy.
Are Spider-Verse fans in for an “emotional” ride?
In an interview with Variety, the Spider-Verse producers suggested that fans should watch out for the level of detail that the villain Spot will have in the third movie. They further stated that the film will notch things up a level, both technologically and artistically.
Spot made its first appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as a scientist who became a casualty of the collider explosion in Into the Spider-Verse and blames Miles for ruining his life. He possesses the tremendous powers of portal creation and teleportation, traveling through multiverses and absorbing powers in the process.
“There are some new things developing for the look. What Spot does specifically is going to be extremely great,” Chris Miller said. Thereafter, Lord added that not only will the movie be a technological marvel, but it will also push the frontiers of storytelling by taking the audience to “places of abstraction” that he believes will be “special.”
Furthermore, Lord reassured fans that the movie is on schedule and will be the most emotional entry in the trilogy. “It’s on schedule, and it is going to be beautiful and emotional.”
The plot is expected to take place after the events of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, in which Miles Morales is trapped in an alternate universe and battles his Prowler counterpart, even as he tries to save his family.
Meanwhile, Gwen Stacy is assembling a team to save Miles, and the multiverse crisis stemming from the canon events remains a major concern.
The Spot is still a big threat, and the consequences may have far-reaching effects on the entire multiverse. Excitement is building, and the stakes have never been higher, as the plot is set for a visually groundbreaking and emotionally resonant finale.
The movie is slated for a theatrical release on June 18, 2027. Are you excited about the third installment of the Spider-Verse franchise? Will the Miles Morales-led film surpass its predecessors in cinematic quality? Let us know in the comments section below.
