If a bunch of attractive lifeguards patrolling the beaches of Los Angeles is your thing, then you are in luck. Fox Entertainment and Fremantle are working on a new Baywatch reboot, and it promises to be a treat for fans of the franchise’s earlier iterations. Furthermore, TVLine has confirmed that former Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell will join the series as a regular. But what role will she play?

Shay Mitchell set to take the LA beaches by storm

Fox announced that the Pretty Little Liars star will play the character Trina, a former lawyer who leaves her practice at a prestigious law firm to become a full-time lifeguard. Shay Mitchell is best known for portraying Emily Fields in Pretty Little Liars, where she was a series regular for all seven seasons. Apart from that role, she has also appeared in You and Dollface.

Mitchell’s character in the Baywatch reboot is described as the “sharpest” mind on the show—someone who is “passionate and dedicated,” but who often uses her intellect to “second-guess” herself.

Alongside Mitchell, the upcoming reboot will also feature several other actors in key roles. Stephen Amell will headline the series as Hobie Buchannon, son of Mitch Buchannon, the main lifeguard leader in the original Baywatch, while Jessica Belkin plays Charlie Vale and Hassie Harrison takes on the role of Nat. The cast further includes Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Brooks Nader as Selene, and Noah Beck as Luke. Meanwhile, David Chokachi is set to return as Cody Madison, reprising the character he portrayed in the original Baywatch.

The original Baywatch ran for 11 seasons from 1989 to 2001, and the reboot will serve as a continuation of the classic beach drama series. The upcoming lifeguard drama is expected to run for 12 episodes and is slated to air on Fox Entertainment sometime in late 2026, although the network has not yet announced an exact premiere date.

The show will be executive-produced by Matt Nix alongside McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz. Nix will also serve as the showrunner, while McG is set to direct the season premiere. Now it remains to be seen whether the fresh cast members can recreate the magic of the iconic original series.
