Bad Bunny is getting ready to take off on a new journey in his acting and music career, as he has landed his very first lead acting role in a historical drama movie called “Porto Rico.” This news comes on the heels of a rather tumultuous and attention-grabbing February for the rapper, in which he was met with backlash for his appearance at the Super Bowl and was awarded his very first historic Grammy award.

Though Bad Bunny is most well-known for his supporting roles in movies such as “Bullet Train” and “Caught Stealing,” he will be starring in what has been described as an “epic Caribbean western,” in which he will be playing a lead role in a movie based on the origins of Puerto Rico.

Fresh off a Grammy win and Super Bowl performance, Bad Bunny stars in Porto Rico

“I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy,” Pérez Joglar said. “This film is a reaffirmation of who we are—told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”

The movie will be written by Residente, who will also be directing the movie in his feature film debut, in association with Alexander Dinelaris, who won an Oscar for his work on “Birdman” and “The Revenant,” and Alejandro González Iñárritu, a renowned film director.

He will be sharing the screen with other stars like Edward Norton, Javier Bardem, and Viggo Mortensen in the film. According to Norton, who is backing the film through his production company Class 5 Films, the film is similar to other crime sagas like The Godfather and Gangs of New York, as they provide a mix of hard-hitting drama and exploration.

The film will be produced by the production company of 1868 Studios, a joint venture between Residente, Sony Music Latin-Iberia, and Sony Music Vision. Live Nation Studios and UTA Independent Film Group are also backing the film.

It is a huge cultural moment for Bad Bunny, as he was recently featured in the Super Bowl Halftime Show, celebrating Puerto Rican culture with over 128 million people watching the event live. The artist also made history at the Grammys with his album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.

It seems like Bad Bunny is using his current worldwide success to reach a new platform with his role in Porto Rico, playing a dramatic role that will help him move from being a musical icon to a movie icon.
