Avengers: Doomsday is nine months out, and the leaks are already moving fast. New details about both Doomsday and Secret Wars have been circulating, and the picture coming together is a lot bigger than most people expected.
What’s Actually Known So Far
The setup for Doomsday is 14 months after Thunderbolts. The Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the original X-Men all come together to face Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
The original X-Men cast is back. Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming all confirmed. Doomsday is dated December 18, 2026, the same day as Dune: Part Three. Doomsday won’t get IMAX in the US for the first three weeks because of that. Secret Wars follows December 17, 2027.
The Secret Wars details are where things get interesting. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello, as well as DanielRPK, reported that everyone who “didn’t have major roles in Avengers: Doomsday” comes back in Secret Wars because Doctor Doom ‘resurrects them.‘
Other rumors say Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine die early in Doomsday. Charles Murphy reported that the final battle takes place in Latveria, the heroes don’t win, and two characters end up as “strangers in a strange land” after learning Doom’s true nature.
There’s also talk that Secret Wars might be split into two films. The Hot Mic reported Doomsday is approaching in three hours, and internal discussions are happening about whether Secret Wars needs to be two parts to handle the scope of it. That would make this a trilogy instead of a two-parter.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is reportedly not a straight villain either. The theory floating around is that Doom’s motivations tie back to Steve Rogers and the timeline mess from Endgame. Chris Evans is confirmed to return. How much he’s in it is still unclear.
Early tracking from Variety already has Doomsday predicted to be 2026’s highest-grossing film. The Russo Brothers directed Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. They know how to do this. The pieces are there.
