Fan interactions can be discomforting, disturbing, comforting, or, in this case, downright hilarious. The Boys officially ended with its final season, and Antony Starr shared his two cents on it. This also includes fans offering him milk in public.
Antony Starr and the ever-present ‘milk’ joke
Antony Starr, who played The Homelander in Amazon Prime’s The Boys, sat down in a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel. He spoke about the series’ ending and strange yet hilarious fan interactions. When asked about Homelander’s quirk for human milk, Starr said, “I think there is an element of comfort. Yeah, there’s a deep, deep-seated comfort that he gets from milk.”
Kimmel asked him if it was because of the fact that his character was artificially generated, to which Starr said yes. He also asked the actor if he gets offered milk in public, to which he said, “Yes.”
In fact, the actor often gets asked by waiters at the bars if he needs milk, and it turns out to be a rather awkward yet hilarious situation. He responds by declining to it. The milk joke, let’s be real, never gets old, but let’s drop the lore now, shall we?
This all started with an internet trope of a father leaving for milk and never coming back home. He abandoned his family, and this is simply a context for those who aren’t familiar with it.
Over the years, it’s become a rather clever retort for most people. In Homelander’s case, he has an inkling for human milk, and he seems to reheat it in one of the scenes, as Starr revealed.
Throughout The Boys’ series, The Homelander shares a conflicted relationship with his father, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. Though not biological, The Homelander harbors feelings for his father.
He even tries to connect with him, but for Soldier Boy, his ‘artificial son’ is nothing but a common enemy that he despises. For Homelander’s character, milk becomes a way for him to connect and understand human contact, nurturing, and warmth. It was brilliantly put forward by Antony Starr.
