After her four-year hiatus in 2022, Alysa Liu secured her win at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Her victory was all over the internet, and so was her recent interaction with Daniel Radcliffe on The Today Show.
Alysa Liu’s fangirl moment with Daniel Radcliffe
Alysa Liu was recently interviewed by TODAY after her historic win at the Olympics. She discussed her winning mindset and her process, but nothing could prepare her for what was to come next. In the backstage area, she was greeted by the Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. The interaction was wholesome, lively, and relatable, as seen in the clip posted by TODAY.
It was a fangirl moment for Alysa as she exclaimed in disbelief, “Oh my god.” She gathered her thoughts as both stars welcomed each other in a friendly embrace.
She then offered her gold medal to Radcliffe, to which he declined the offer, saying, “You know what I can’t wear it.. Wearing it feels like stolen valor.” Liu responded by saying it’s fine, to which the actor replied, holding the medal in his hand instead.
US Figure Skating left a comment on the IG clip saying, “Gold snitch catcher meets gold medalist.” The actor commended Liu on her gold medal win, and she graciously accepted it.
While Alyssa Liu discussed her recent win at the Olympics, Daniel Radcliffe appeared on the TODAY show to talk about his latest project, The Fall and the Rise of Reggie Dinkins.
Previously, Liu stated that she took a 4-year hiatus after experiencing burnout. She is also one of the first American women to win a medal in singles figure skating since 2006. The last one to do so was Sasha Cohen at the 2006 Turing Games.
When asked if she would change anything about her younger self, she declined. “She would figure it out herself,” she said. Liu also attributes making mistakes as a part of her winning mindset.
Most importantly, Liu’s comeback in the figure skating scene has inspired millions of fans and viewers worldwide. Her journey, process, and perspective have cemented her position as a global icon for several upcoming sportsmen and sportswomen.
