The Devil Wears Prada 2 will mark the return of the iconic cast, including Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, and Meryl Streep. They will reprise their roles; however, the sequel has upset a former cast member. Adrian Grenier, in particular, is upset regarding the snub.
Adrian Grenier addresses absence in Devil Wears Prada 2
In an interview with Page Six, Adrian Grenier spoke about being snubbed from the film. He said, “Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.”
Grenier played the role of Nate Cooper, Andy Sachs’s boyfriend. Nate works as a sous chef at a restaurant and is a budding chef. His relationship with Andy is troubled. This is mainly due to her new job, as Nate perceives it.
There has been a backlash regarding Nate’s character, especially with how he treated Andy throughout the movie. This opinion also applies to his friends who meddle with his girlfriend’s job in one of the scenes.
Viewers have time and time again pointed out how Nate is an unpleasant and unfavorable boyfriend. They have also criticized the friends for trying to discourage Andy from being ambitious and career-oriented.
Over the years, fans have equated Nate and Lily as potential antagonists of the movie, but the actor seems a bit hopeful about this current situation. Grenier, in the same interview, also views this snub as an opportunity for a future spin-off featuring Nate.
The actor doesn’t view his character in a negative light. Rather, he called the behavior “bratty.” He did, though, make efforts to understand the audience’s disdain for the character.
What’s also interesting is that Simon Baker won’t be returning to the sequel either. The actor who played Christian Thompson recently revealed to SkyNews.com.au that the team did not approach him regarding the sequel.
As of now, Adrian Grenier will star in Christine Luby’s rom-com You, Always alongside Jessica de Gouw.
