10 ‘Virgin River’ characters I hate the most
10. Preacher (Season 6 arc)
Preacher is actually someone I’ve always liked, which is why his Season 6 storyline frustrated me so much. Watching him get pulled into a drawn-out legal situation felt like a disservice to the character. I kept wishing the show would bring him back to the grounded, reliable role that made him such a favorite in the first place.
9. Mike Valenzuela
Mike is one of those characters I feel like I should like, but don’t. He’s clearly meant to be the “safe” option, but his attitude toward Brady often comes across as a bit rigid to me. And that Season 6 proposal? Given everything that had just happened, it felt more impulsive than romantic, which made the whole moment harder to buy into.
8. Ricky
Ricky’s storyline never quite worked for me the way it probably should have. His indecisiveness, especially when it came to Lizzie, often made things feel more frustrating than emotional. And the secrecy around his enlistment just added to that. Compared to other characters, his arc felt slower and less engaging overall.
7. Connie
Connie has always come across as overly judgmental to me. The way she handled Lizzie early on, along with her constant tendency to weigh in on other people’s lives, made her difficult to like. I do think she’s softened over time, especially in her support of Preacher, but I still haven’t fully moved past those earlier impressions.
6. Everett Reid
I really wanted to feel more about Everett, given how important he is to Mel’s story, but his introduction left me a bit cold. His distant, almost dismissive attitude made it hard for me to connect with him at first. Even as his backstory unfolded, I kept feeling like his presence was pulling focus from moments I was more excited to see, especially with everything else going on.
5. Calvin (Season 6 version)
Calvin used to feel like a real threat, but the Season 6 version just didn’t land the same way for me. Something about the new portrayal lacks that quiet, intimidating edge the character once had. His ongoing conflict with Charmaine should feel high-stakes, but instead, I found myself less invested than I expected to be.
4. Lark (and Jimmy)
Lark might be one of the few characters I genuinely can’t stand after Season 6. Watching her go from a seemingly sympathetic single mom to someone who carefully manipulates Brady over an entire season was frustrating enough, but the way she vanished with his money made it even worse. What really bothered me was how calculated it all felt, especially involving her daughter in the scheme. That reveal completely changed how I see her.
3. Cameron Hayek
From the moment Cameron showed up and started offering unsolicited advice about Mel’s relationship, I struggled to get on board with him. His “nice guy” persona feels a little too forced for me, and his romance with Muriel never really clicked. By the time he left in Season 6, I couldn’t help but feel like his character never fully found a place in the story.
2. Hope McCrea
Hope is the kind of character I go back and forth on, but more often than not, she frustrates me. As mayor, she somehow manages to be involved in everyone’s business, whether it’s reading private mail or interfering in Mel and Jack’s relationship. I did appreciate the vulnerability added by her recovery from a traumatic brain injury, but her stubbornness and refusal to respect boundaries still make her hard for me to warm up to.
1. Charmaine Roberts
I don’t think any Virgin River character has tested my patience quite like Charmaine. That never-ending pregnancy storyline alone was enough to drive me up the wall, and even after she finally gave birth in Season 5, I still can’t shake off everything that came before, especially the drawn-out paternity lie involving Jack. By the time Season 6 rolled around, her constant “damsel in distress” situations stopped feeling dramatic and just started feeling exhausting.
