The Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ryan Coogler will be rebooting the classic TV series The X-Files. The project is still in early development, with no premiere window announced yet. Coogler’s reboot has only been greenlit for a pilot by Hulu, and Gillian Anderson, who played Agent Scully in the original series, revealed in a recent interview that she has had the chance to read the script.

Anderson urges audience to watch Coogler’s X-Files reboot with “open mind”

In an interview with entertainment journalist Dory Jackson at Awesome Con 2026, Gillian Anderson gave updates about the much-anticipated reboot of the sci-fi supernatural mystery series The X-Files. Jackson asked if Anderson had talked to the Sinners filmmaker Ryan Coogler about the reboot, and she replied that she had had “a few conversations” with him regarding the project.

Thereafter, she complimented the director and told the audience gathered at the event that the pilot script was promising. “He’s such a cool guy and so talented, and the pilot script is really good.”

Furthermore, she asked the audience to be open-minded about the pilot episode, as the filmmaker has attempted something “different.” “I would say, have an open mind and give it a chance because it’s going to be cool.”

“It’s something different, and it’s special. So, give it a break,” she further added.

However, Anderson did not comment on her personal involvement in the project. Therefore, her possible return as FBI agent Scully for the reboot remains up in the air. In an interview with the Today Show last year, she didn’t rule out the possibility of featuring in the Coogler-directed revival. “Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing,” she said, adding, “I’m not saying no.”

It must be noted that this is not the first time that the series, which ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2002, has been revived. Anderson was brought back again to play the role alongside co-star David Duchovny for a two-season revival from 2016 to 2018. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the second reboot will match the charm of the original series.
