If there’s one thing Bridgerton does best, it’s the Regency flair along with love story tropes. Season 4 focused on the forbidden love between Sophie and Benedict. The fifth season is no different, especially with its focus on Francesca and Michaela’s love story.

Bridgerton S5 to explore Francesca and Michaela’s turbulent love

Netflix recently uploaded a Season 5 teaser on its YouTube channel. The clip features Hannah Todd and Masali Buduza in their roles of Francesca and Michalea, respectively, but that’s not all.

The synopsis for the upcoming season was as follows: “Two years after losing her beloved husband John, Francesca (Hannah Dodd) decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela (Masali Baduza) returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.”

Season 5 deviates from the order of the books and is all set to focus on Michaela’s and Francesca’s relationship. The showmakers proceeded with Colin’s story and then went ahead with Benedict’s story previously as well.

The stories are all based on Julia Quinn’s novels of the same name. Each novel underlines the experience and journey of the Bridgerton siblings, but it’s the yearning that draws the readers and viewers to the series.

Julia Quinn blends Regency period love stories with yearning, slow burn, and angst. Readers and viewers precisely love that about the series. It all ends with the characters finding a resolution for these conflicts. Michaela and Francesca are no strangers to that, and Quinn pointed out early on about happy endings: “Romance novels are all about the happy ending. And the truth is that’s what we all want in life. Isn’t the human quest the happy ending? But if you’re going to have a genre that’s all about love and happy endings, then let everybody see themselves in the story.

Bridgerton Season 5 is currently in production and is slated for release between 2027 and 2028.
