The future of the live-action One Piece series looks to be even brighter as producers have once again confirmed plans for a potential 12-season run. While fans are currently engrossed in the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates in Season 2, as they set out to conquer the Grand Line, the long-term plans for the show are once again being talked about. While fans are hoping to see the entire journey of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the confirmation of a potential 12-season run certainly gives a glimpse at the long-term potential for the show.

Producers Outline Long-Term Vision for Series

While the confirmation of a potential 12-season run for “One Piece” might not be entirely new, producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements first hinted at the possibility of adapting the show for as many as 12 seasons as far back as 2023. The show, which boasts over 1,100 chapters in the original manga, would mean that even a six-season run would only cover half the original material.

While the potential for a long-term run certainly looks promising, especially given the global popularity of the show, Netflix is certainly taking things one step at a time.

Where things are at right now is quite impressive. Season 1 brought audiences the East Blue Saga, while Season 2’s premiere, already out on March 10, 2026, takes the story through Loguetown and Drum Island arcs as the crew officially sets out onto the Grand Line. Season 3 is already in production and will supposedly cover the Alabasta arc, one of the most popular storylines in the series.

The production is moving at a faster pace than anyone anticipated. Season 3 is said to have gone into production before Season 2 even aired, indicating that Netflix is looking to keep things moving and not give audiences too much of a wait between releases. But will it be able to stretch out to be a 12-season series?

There are many factors that could affect the production, including the fact that the star, Iñaki Godoy, who plays Luffy, would be quite aged when the series is said to conclude, as well as the fact that the cost of production will only continue to rise.
