One of the biggest questions from fans about Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again was answered by Vincent D’Onofrio, one of the show’s stars, about why there is no Jon Bernthal, or his character Punisher, in Season 2 of the show. As the wait continues to build up, this news is generating a mix of reactions from fans who want to see their favorite character, Punisher, share scenes with their other favorite character, Matt Murdock, in Season 2 of the show.

D’Onofrio explains why Punisher is absent from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

In response to one of his fans on X, Vincent D’Onofrio got real about why there is no Punisher in Season 2 of the show, saying, “If Jon wasn’t busy makin’ his own hour-long Punisher film and hangin’ with that insect, we would have wanted him to join us in Season 2 for sure. Yet he had a wonderful opportunity to do the other projects and I for one can’t wait to see him in those.”

For fans, this explanation will be a mix of disappointing and reassuring news. While many were hoping to see another intense crossover, the reason for his absence seems to suggest something much bigger. While Bernthal may not be leaving his role as the Punisher, he is merely taking it elsewhere in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As a matter of fact, 2026 promises to be a big year for the Punisher. Bernthal will be appearing in a Disney+ Special Presentation titled “The Punisher: One Last Kill,” which promises to be a darker take on the character. At the same time, he will be appearing in the MCU’s first big-screen outing, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which promises to feature a tense relationship between him and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

D’Onofrio himself seemed to suggest that there was no bad blood between him and Bernthal. While discussing his co-star’s upcoming projects, D’Onofrio was full of praise, suggesting that despite Frank Castle’s absence from Season 2, there was hope for a future appearance.

Fans will simply have to wait to see Daredevil and Punisher team up once again. However, given Bernthal’s upcoming projects, it’s safe to say that the Punisher isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
