Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been well received by fans of the larger Game of Thrones universe. The comparatively light-hearted knight-and-squire adventure set in Westeros has been renewed for Season 2 following the performance of the first season. As per the latest developments, the release date of the second season remains on schedule, with production currently underway.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 set to wrap filming this year
As per Deadline, the spin-off series is set to wrap filming in June. As per media reports, filming began around late 2025 in Belfast and is on track for an early 2027 release. The makers of the show are looking for a more annual rollout, trying to avoid the longer gaps seen in other Game of Thrones spin-offs.
The second season of the show will be based on The Sworn Sword, the second novella in George R. R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series. Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms followed Ser Duncan the Tall, who set out to prove his worth following the death of his mentor and, along the way, picked up a young squire known as Egg, who is actually Aegon Targaryen, a prince in disguise.
Together, they set out on an adventure where they encounter powerful nobles and royal politics, and grapple with questions of justice while building a formidable friendship.
As per a Hollywood Reporter piece last month, the season finale garnered 9.5 million U.S. viewers, with the season averaging 14 million U.S. viewers and 26 million globally, reflecting the season’s strong performance. The second season is expected to pick up after the events of Season 1’s tournament, with Dunk and Egg continuing their travels across Westeros.
The episode count of Season 2 is expected to be similar to that of Season 1. The series takes place in relatively peaceful times, about 100 years before Game of Thrones, and the lighthearted travelling knights’ tale is far from the long, massive battle sequences of its predecessor. It remains to be seen if the more adventure-focused, smaller-in-scale series can continue its strong run in the upcoming installment.
