The Walt Disney Company is already planning its long-term box office strategy, with its 2029 lineup shaping up to be a year filled with big-budget sequels. At the helm are ‘Coco 2’ and ‘Avatar 4,’ two of Disney’s most valuable properties that are set to be released at year’s end to cement Disney’s position as a studio that relies heavily on its global hits.
Disney Doubles Down on Franchise Power for 2029
The studio is giving fans of ‘Coco’ something to look forward to in November with ‘Coco 2’ from Pixar Animation Studios, which is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2029. The sequel to the Oscar-winning film that became a cultural phenomenon more than a decade ago is set to see an older Miguel face new challenges related to his family legacy.
To reassure fans that the studio is doubling down on its commitment to authenticity, Disney is reportedly bringing back its consultants who helped create the celebrated Mexican culture in the original film.
Just after a month, ‘Avatar 4’ is set to open in theaters on December 21, 2029, under the banner of 20th Century Studios. Already one of the most anticipated movies from the franchise, the film is helmed by James Cameron himself. A large chunk of the film was shot years ago to accommodate the aging of younger cast members, as the movie is set to introduce a significant time jump that will change the direction of the story in bold ways.
Apart from these two movies that are already generating much hype in the market, there are other movies that Disney has planned for release in 2029. There are rumors of Untitled Marvel Studios movies scheduled for release in May and July 2029. There are speculations that these movies may include a potential reboot of the X-Men franchise.
There is also another movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios that is generating much interest in the market. This movie is scheduled for release in June 2029 and may potentially be Zootopia 3 or even a sequel to Encanto.
