10 Anime ‘Heroes’ I Hate the Most

10. Zenitsu Agatsuma ('Demon Slayer')

10. Zenitsu Agatsuma ('Demon Slayer')

Zenitsu has his cool moments, but they don’t make up for everything else. Most of the time, he’s overwhelmed, loud, and difficult to watch. His reactions often feel exaggerated to the point of being tiring. I get that it’s meant to be comedic, but it just doesn’t work for me. The contrast between his abilities and his usual behavior makes him more frustrating than entertaining.

9. Asta ('Black Clover')

9. Asta ('Black Clover')

Early Asta was honestly hard to listen to. The constant shouting made it difficult to get through the first part of the series. While he definitely improves over time and becomes much more likable, that initial phase left a lasting impression. It took a lot of patience to get past it. Even now, I still remember how rough those early episodes felt.

8. Makoto Itou ('School Days')

8. Makoto Itou ('School Days')

Makoto is one of the most frustrating leads I’ve ever watched. His decisions are consistently poor, and he treats the people around him with very little care. It’s difficult to root for someone who keeps making the same mistakes without learning anything. Unlike others on this list, the story actually addresses his behavior in the end. Still, getting there is not an enjoyable experience.

7. Kirito ('Sword Art Online')

7. Kirito ('Sword Art Online')

Kirito feels way too perfect for me to stay invested. He rarely struggles in a way that feels meaningful, and things tend to work out in his favor far too easily. On top of that, his personality doesn’t stand out enough to carry the story. It often feels like he exists more as a fantasy figure than a real character. I just never found him compelling.

6. Gabi Braun ('Attack on Titan')

6. Gabi Braun ('Attack on Titan')

Gabi is a character I struggled to like from the very beginning. I understand her role in the story and what she represents, but her attitude made it difficult for me to connect with her. Her early actions left a strong negative impression that never really faded for me. Even as her perspective evolves, I still find it hard to fully warm up to her. That first impression just sticks.

5. Minoru Mineta ('My Hero Academia')

5. Minoru Mineta ('My Hero Academia')

Mineta is easily one of my least favorite characters in the entire show. His personality revolves around the same repetitive joke that gets old very quickly. Instead of being funny, it just becomes uncomfortable and unnecessary. In a cast full of interesting characters, he feels completely out of place. I honestly don’t see what he adds to the story.

4. Shinji Ikari ('Neon Genesis Evangelion')

4. Shinji Ikari ('Neon Genesis Evangelion')

I get what Shinji represents, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy watching him. His constant hesitation and emotional breakdowns make the story feel slower than it should be. I understand he’s written as a realistic teenager under pressure, but as a viewer, it can get exhausting. There are moments where I just want him to take action instead of pulling back again. It’s more frustrating than engaging for me.

3. Sakura Haruno ('Naruto')

3. Sakura Haruno ('Naruto')

Sakura has always been frustrating for me, especially in the earlier parts of the series. Her character often felt underutilized, and her constant focus on Sasuke didn’t help. Even though she becomes much stronger later on, that early impression sticks hard. It feels like I’m supposed to forget everything that came before, but I just can’t. Her growth is real, but it never fully redeems the start.

2. Rudeus Greyrat ('Mushoku Tensei')

2. Rudeus Greyrat ('Mushoku Tensei')

Rudeus is one of the most uncomfortable leads I’ve had to sit through. Yes, the world-building is incredible, but his early behavior makes it really hard for me to connect with his journey. I understand the idea of a redemption arc, but for me, it doesn’t fully balance out his past actions. Even as he grows, that initial impression never really goes away. It just makes the whole experience feel conflicted.

1. Kazuya Kinoshita ('Rent-a-Girlfriend')

1. Kazuya Kinoshita ('Rent-a-Girlfriend')

I genuinely can’t stand Kazuya as a protagonist. His lack of emotional maturity and constant indecision make every situation more frustrating than it needs to be. Instead of facing problems head-on, he keeps digging himself deeper with unnecessary lies. What annoys me the most is that even after multiple chances to grow, he just resets back to the same behavior. Watching his “progress” feels like going in circles.
