Barry Keoghan appeared on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on March 20 and shared a sentiment many weren’t expecting: the online harassment regarding his appearance has become so severe that he no longer wants to go outside.
Barry Keoghan Said It Straight
“There’s a lot of hate online. It’s a lot of abuse of how I look… it’s made me really go inside myself,” Keoghan admitted. “And I say this being absolutely pure and honest with you: It’s becoming a problem.”
Much of the hostility stems from his late 2024 split with Sabrina Carpenter, after which a segment of the fanbase began targeting his looks. Although he deleted his Instagram in 2024, Keoghan admitted he still checks the reactions after major events.
“It’s not nice,” he said. “When that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem because then you don’t even want to be on screen anymore.”
He also brought up his three-year-old son, Brando. “It is disappointing for the fans, but it’s also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older.“
This isn’t the first time Keoghan has talked about this. In a 2024 interview with Louis Theroux, he said the comments were “completely different and absolutely disgusting.” It’s clearly been going on for a while, and it’s gotten worse, not better.
Keoghans has the Peaky Blinders movie out, a Beatles biopic coming, and The Batman Part II in production. He’s one of the more interesting actors working right now. The fact that internet hate is making him not want to show up is a genuinely bad situation.
