Michael B. Jordan won the Oscar for Best Actor on March 15 for Sinners, and by March 16, his asking price for Miami Vice had doubled. That’s how fast things move after a win.

Oscar Money Hits Different for Michael B. Jordan

Jordan’s new rep at WME, James Farrell, told him to hold off on closing his Miami Vice deal until after the Oscars. Smart move. Jordan won and immediately pushed his asking price to $18 million.

That’s roughly double what his co-star Austin Butler is getting. And if director Joseph Kosinski also lands Tom Cruise as the villain, like he reportedly wants, you’re looking at nearly $50 million going to just three actors before a single frame is shot.

Jordan’s win for Sinners wasn’t just a personal milestone; it was a win for the horror-drama genre, which dominated the 2026 ceremony with 16 nominations. With his upcoming Thomas Crown Affair remake already in the can for 2027, Jordan is operating with maximum momentum.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider broke the news, and fans on X backed Jordan immediately. The numbers make some sense when you look at what Jordan has built. He got $2 million for Black Panther, where he played Killmonger, one of the best-reviewed performances in the whole MCU.

He got $4 million for Sinners. That film made $369 million worldwide and landed him the Oscar. The jump to $18 million is big, but it’s not crazy given the trajectory.

The Miami Vice reboot has Jordan and Butler playing Crockett and Tubbs, the two undercover detectives from the 1980s TV series. Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer wrote the script.

The story is set in mid-1980s Miami, following organized crime. Kosinski directed Top Gun: Maverick, which made $1.4 billion, so the pieces are there.

Universal has the film dated for August 6, 2027. Filming was supposed to start this summer. Whether Jordan’s number gets met or the whole thing gets pushed is still open.

Jordan also has The Thomas Crown Affair remake, which he directed and stars in, dropping in March 2027. He’s not sitting around waiting.

The ball is with Universal now.
