Ryan Gosling has been a fan favorite to play Ghost Rider for quite some time, and finally, the actor has revealed whether or not Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige ever offered him the role. In an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on March 20, 2026, Ryan Gosling finally addressed the rumors of him potentially playing the Spirit of Vengeance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s complicated,” Ryan Gosling says about Marvel Studios discussions.
“It’s complicated,” Gosling admits about Marvel talks
When asked by the host of Happy Sad Confused, Josh Horowitz, if Ryan Gosling had ever been in discussions with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about potentially playing the role of Ghost Rider in an upcoming film, Ryan Gosling didn’t hold back.
“Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation,” Ryan Gosling replied to the question, sending fans into a frenzy over the potential of Ryan Gosling playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For Marvel fans, this is the moment when speculation becomes reality. Ryan Gosling playing Ghost Rider has been a rumor for quite some time, even being hinted at by Kevin Feige himself. So what’s holding it back? Well, a lot of it has to do with timing.
Gosling’s schedule is busy, and right now, he’s out promoting Project Hail Mary while at the same time prepping for his role in Star Wars: Starfighter. It’s not just one movie; it’s a multi-movie deal, and that’s a lot of time and effort to try to fit into his busy schedule.
Another issue could be Marvel’s plans in general. With Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars on the horizon, Marvel’s plans for Ghost Rider are still up in the air. Whether or not Gosling would play an old-school version of Johnny Blaze or be a part of a reboot of the franchise remains to be seen. So, again, that adds to the “complicated” nature of the project that Gosling hinted at.
A fun little side note was when Gosling jokingly brought up the fact that his significant other, Eva Mendes, had starred in the 2007 film Ghost Rider, starring alongside Nicolas Cage. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see if the project actually happens, but for the first time, we can say that we’re closer than ever.
