The anime world is ever-changing, and it’s quite fascinating to see how tables turn. This is especially the case with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s recent win. Season 7, in particular, has now become the highest-rated anime, and here’s how.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure dethrones Frieren as highest-rated anime

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s seventh season, Steel Ball Run, has officially dethroned Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Season 2, to become the highest-rated anime on MyAnimeList, aka MAL.

Based on Hirohiko Araki’s manga of the same name, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has had a long run. It started out in 1987 and has paved the way for several anime. Safe to say, Araki’s work has now become a cultural phenomenon.

Be it names or fashion, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is heavily inspired by the West. Dio Brando would remind one of the classic Hollywood star Marlon Brando. Jolyne Cujoh’s name comes from Dolly Parton’s hit song Jolene.

Steel Ball Run, to be specific, focuses on Johnny Jostar and Gyro Zeppeli, who participate in a cross-country race. It is a facade, a ploy orchestrated by the President, Funny Valentine, to ensure supremacy and domination by securing the corpse parts.

Johnny and Gyro have their eyes on the 50 million dollar prize, but they work in tandem to fight potential enemies. Together, they plan on foiling Funny Valentine’s plans while fighting potentially stronger Stand users.

Season 7 is animated by David Production. It is the same studio behind popular anime like Fire Force, Urusei Yatsura, and so on. The series is packed with action-driven scenes that are breathtaking and downright meticulous.

Ever since Steel Ball Run’s adaptation was announced, it had both readers and viewers anticipating its release. The seventh season also scored an IMDb rating of 9.9/10, which is nothing short of impressive.

As a whole, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has inspired several new-gen anime. Be it the iconic poses or exaggerated facial expressions, many anime series like Dandadan and Wotakoi have paid their tribute to the series.

Steel Ball Run is available for streaming on Netflix.
