Liv Morgan has a movie coming out, and she’s now put a timeline on it. Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, directed by Takashi Miike, is hitting theaters in September 2026. Morgan confirmed it herself.
What She Said and What the Film Actually Is
“Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, I filmed in Japan last year. It’s going to hit theaters in September. I was very excited about the project. I learned a lot and I feel better after the fact, having the experience.”
“I was lucky to be in the room with all of these incredibly talented veterans of the film industry. And the WWE audience is going to see me in a way that I think, perhaps, they never thought they’d see me, so I would tune in,” Morgan said.
That last line is doing a lot of work. Miike is not exactly known for playing it safe. The man directed Audition and Ichi the Killer. His body of work runs over 100 films, and a good chunk of them are not for the faint-hearted.
Morgan walking into that set as a WWE star with limited film credits is either a very bold move or a very interesting one, probably both.
The film follows a corrupt, odds-addicted Tokyo cop played by Shun Oguri, who gets pulled into a messy investigation after an FBI agent played by Lily James arrives in Japan looking for a missing politician’s daughter. That’s Morgan’s role. The yakuza are involved. It’s a Miike film, so expect things to get strange.
This is the third Bad Lieutenant movie. Abel Ferrara did the original in 1992 with Harvey Keitel. Werner Herzog did his own version in 2009 with Nicolas Cage in New Orleans. Now Miike takes it to Tokyo. The franchise has a habit of picking directors who do not make conventional choices, so at least the pattern holds.
No official release date beyond September has been confirmed yet. Morgan is also heading into WrestleMania 42 before any of this lands, challenging for the WWE Women’s World Title after winning the Royal Rumble earlier this year. Busy few months ahead.
