Sugar, spice, and everything nice isn’t exactly how one would describe the music industry. Labrinth would agree to this, especially with his latest post. The composer recently posted on Instagram, slamming the industry as a whole, and here’s why.
Labrinth slams the music industry for its “fakeness”
Labrinth recently took to Instagram to criticize the music industry for its fakeness. He wrote a long post saying, “We hover around big stars hoping to be in their place one day, like snakes, waiting to eat their owners.”
The British rapper and songwriter bashed the space for turning the creative process into something completely different. “We walk into this industry as creatives that wish to share color but get turned into wolves of Wall Street, dribbling over stocks and shares.”
This is also after he ended ties with both Columbia Records and the Euphoria franchise. In his now-deleted post, he wrote, “I’M DONE WITH THIS INDUSTRY / F— COLUMBIA / DOUBLE F— EUPHORIA / I’M OUT.”
Labrinth has worked on the past two seasons as an original score composer for the series. He is best known for his singles Beneath Your Beautiful, Jealous, The Feels, and so on. His song “All For Us,” which was a collaboration between him and Zendaya, was a massive hit.
As for the recent controversy between him, Colombia Studios, and Euphoria, there are speculations of creative differences and turmoil behind the scenes. This might be tied to other reasons as well.
Previously, Storm Reid left the show due to scheduling issues, as reported by some sources. Barbie Ferreira also left the show before Season 3’s release.
Besides that, Austin Abrams and Nika King also exited the show, but the reasons weren’t explicitly stated. Labrinth’s post, on the other hand, shed light on possible issues that might be behind his departure.
In his fiery post, he also wrote, “fake ain’t a good business plan.” It also pointed to music being used in business transactions. Although it is unclear what went down exactly, the artist has likely cut ties with both Colombia Studios and Euphoria indefinitely.
