Antony Starr liked a fan casting image of himself as Albert Wesker in the upcoming Resident Evil reboot, and now the internet has turned it into a full-blown conversation. Here is everything to know about where that stands.
Fans want Antony Starr as Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil reboot
Digital artist BossLogic posted a photoshopped image on Instagram, placing Starr in the role of Wesker, inspired by the actor’s appearance in G20, the Viola Davis action film, where he shows up in tactical gear. The resemblance to the video game version of Wesker was strong enough that BossLogic called for the casting to be made official. Starr spotted the post and responded in the comments with: “Yeah, I want that job.“
It is not hard to see why fans latched onto the idea. Starr has spent years on The Boys playing Homelander, a character who masks a deeply sinister nature behind a polished, heroic exterior. Wesker operates on a similar wavelength, presenting himself as a trusted authority figure before revealing his true allegiances. The tactical gear from G20, paired with sunglasses in BossLogic’s edit, made the physical resemblance to the game character difficult to dismiss.
Wesker was introduced in the original Resident Evil game as the commanding officer of S.T.A.R.S., a police rescue unit in Raccoon City. He spent most of the game playing the role of a reliable leader before it came out that he had been working with the Umbrella Corporation the entire time, using his own team as unwilling test subjects against T-Virus creatures in a mountain laboratory. He later injected himself with a virus to gain superhuman abilities and became one of the franchise’s most recognisable antagonists across multiple sequels.
The character has been brought to life in live action several times. Eric Pirius portrayed him in the original game’s cut scenes, Jason O’Mara and Shawn Roberts each took turns in the Milla Jovovich film series, Tom Hopper played Wesker in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and the late Lance Reddick portrayed a version of the character in the Netflix series.
As for the new film, director Zach Cregger of Barbarian is attached, and the movie is dated for September 18, 2026, though it still does not have an official title. No plot details have been confirmed, and there has been no word on whether any characters from the games will actually appear. Wesker’s inclusion is far from guaranteed, which means Starr’s comment may amount to nothing, or it may have planted a seed worth watching.
