Chopper, or Tony Tony Chopper, as we call him, is an adorable member of the Straw Hat Pirates in the One Piece series. He’s a blue-nose reindeer; he’s a doctor, but most importantly, he’s a crucial member of Luffy’s crew. Here are 5 things you need to know about him.
5. He had a painful backstory
Chopper’s backstory could make any grown adult cry. He was shunned by his reindeer family for his blue nose. If that wasn’t enough, humans also hunted him down and almost ended him, if not for Dr. Hiruluk. The Quack doctor, as he was called, shaped Chopper’s early years until his tearful death that ultimately left the character mentally scarred.
4. Chopper’s unique transformation abilities
Chopper has a unique transformation ability that exceeds that of a typical Zoan fruit-type user. As opposed to 3 stages, Chopper can transform into up to 9 forms because of the Rumble Ball, namely, walk point, brain point, jumping point, arm point, horn point, heavy point, guard point, kung-fu point, and lastly, monster point, which is the most advanced of them all.
3. Chopper’s medical expertise is beyond compare
They say one should never judge a book by its cover. While Chopper may seem all cutesy, he is a skilled doctor. His time spent with Dr. Hiruluk and Dr. Kureha proved to be fruitful. He learned herbalism and modern medicine under Kureha’s tutelage. It was evident in the manner he healed Nami within 3 days instead of 10 when she was bitten by a Kestia tick. The beloved reindeer is also exceptionally skilled when it comes to performing surgeries.
2. Chopper’s Devil Fruit
In the Drum Island Arc, it was revealed that Chopper ate the Hito Hito no Mi. This devil fruit, also called the Human-Human Fruit, made the reindeer a human-hybrid. He can walk, talk, and even think like a human. This is precisely why his hybrid nature was seen as a threat by both his kind and the humans, as he opened up about it to Dr. Hiriluk.
1. A skilled inventor and researcher
Other than having a knack for cotton candy, Chopper is an avid reader. He experimented with medicine and materials and was thus able to invent the Rumble Ball. By the timeskip, he tweaked it so as to enhance his abilities and to ease his transformations.
Besides that, Chopper also created an antidote during the Wano arc. While Zoro and others fell prey to the Ice Oni’s virus, he immediately got to work and created a drug that helped the crew and those affected by the virus.
