Lately, there has been a controversial row regarding White House using clips on their social media handle. There are movies, shows, and now, even anime, and it seems like Yu-Gi-Oh! makers aren’t happy about it. They had lots to say about this situation.
Yu-Gi-Oh addresses White House using Yami Yugi clips
The Yu-Gi-Oh! team spoke about White House using clips featuring Yami Yugi. They condemned it, saying, “It has come to our attention that a post on the White House’s official X account used footage from the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh!. This was made without any authorization from the rights holder. Regarding this matter, no one associated with the manga or anime had any involvement, and no permission was granted for the use of this intellectual property.“
On March 6th, White House posted a video on its X account. They captioned it “Justice, the American Way”. It featured pop culture references ranging from Deadpool to Transformers. Other than Yu-Gi-Oh, the clip also featured snippets from Dragon Ball Super. However, no official statement was made from the Dragon Ball franchise regarding the clip usage.
Ben Stiller recently clapped back at White House’s usage of the film clips for the current scenario. He wrote a post on his X account saying, “Hey White House, please remove the Tropic Thunder clip. We never gave you permission and have no interest in being a part of your propaganda machine. War is not a movie.”
Recently, Yu-Gi-Oh voice actor Dan Green also spoke up regarding the matter. Green, who voices Yugi Mutou in the English dub, posted on X. He said:
Kazuki Takahashi’s most beloved contribution continues to inspire people to become who they are, and this was presented in a way far removed from the story he was telling. Takahashi died saving others. Yu-Gi-Oh! is universal, not political. It is disrespectful to present it in any other way.”
This isn’t a first, come to think of it. Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter previously criticized the Trump administration for misusing their songs.
