A new music biopic centered on Bon Jovi is moving forward at Universal Pictures, bringing the story of one of rock’s biggest bands to the big screen. The project will chronicle the group behind massive hits such as Livin’ on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, and It’s My Life, focusing on the early years that shaped their rise to global fame.
A Look at Bon Jovi’s Rise in the 1980s
According to early reports, the film will focus on the band’s beginnings in New Jersey during the early 1980s. The story is expected to follow their climb from small club shows to arena headliners, culminating with the breakthrough success of the album Slippery When Wet, which helped turn the group into international rock stars.
The screenplay is being written by Cody Brotter, who has gained attention recently for the upcoming thriller Killing Satoshi. Producing duties are being handled by Kevin J. Walsh, known for his work on Manchester by the Sea, alongside Gotham Chopra, who previously directed the 2024 documentary series Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.
Although Universal has not announced casting decisions yet, speculation has quickly spread among fans and industry watchers.
In an interview, Jon Bon Jovi mentioned that his own son, Jake Bongiovi, could potentially play him in the film. The singer pointed out the strong physical resemblance between them and noted that Bongiovi has been building his acting career.
Beyond that suggestion, several actors have been mentioned in fan discussions. Names often brought up include Miles Teller, Jacob Elordi, and Dacre Montgomery, all of whom could match the larger-than-life presence associated with 1980s arena rock.
Some fans have even jokingly proposed Timothée Chalamet for a role. However, industry chatter suggests he may not be a likely choice for the project at this stage.
