In 2024, the Lord of the Rings movie was announced by Warner Bros. It is scheduled for release in 2027, but it seems like the movie has more in store for the fans. As some reports suggest, Kate Winslet might be joining the franchise, and here’s all we know for now.
Kate Winslet rumored to join LOTR prequel
Lord of the Rings is set to release a prequel film, The Hunt for Gollum. As reported by Daniel Richtman, there are talks of Kate Winslet joining the upcoming movie. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to bring back original cast members.
Elijah Wood will reprise his role as Frodo Baggins. Sir Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf, and Andy Serkis will play Gollum in the upcoming prequel movie. There are also talks of Anya Taylor-Joy joining the cast, but it hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.
As for Kate Winslet, the esteemed actress was previously offered the role of Eowyn. It was none other than Peter Jackson who approached her for this role in 1999.
Eowyn, as we all know, is a skilled shieldmaiden, a warrior, a noblewoman, and a healer who hails from the kingdom of Rohan.
The character was later played by Miranda Otto, but here’s the thing. Kate Winslet had her reasons for passing on the role. Her team reported that the project required her to relocate to New Zealand, and it would take 3 years for the project to be completed.
The actress saw this requirement as too much of a commitment. As for her current talks regarding the upcoming LOTR movie, there are speculations that she might play the role of Gilraen.
Beth Aynsley portrayed the younger version of the character in the 2009 movie. Winslet might play the older version of the character, as some fans suggest.
However, one thing we should know is that there are no official statements that have been made as of now. These are merely reports and speculations, so all fans have to do is wait as of yet.
