The fourth standalone Spider-Man film in the MCU, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is currently in post-production. However, rumors are still swirling about several cast members potentially joining the film and the roles they might play. One such speculation floating around the internet suggests that Steven Yeun, known for The Walking Dead, could portray the villain Mr. Negative. In a recent interview, however, the actor put those rumors to bed.
When will Steven Yeun get his start in the MCU?
In a recent interview with ComicBook’s Chris Kittian, Steven Yeun addressed rumors linking him to the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While the actor admitted it would have been exciting, he clarified that he is not involved in the project.
“Oh, man. If there was, I wouldn’t… I don’t know about it,” Yeun said. “But that would have been dope,” he added.
Steven Yeun’s tryst with Marvel has been unfortunate, to say the least. The actor was initially cast in the MCU film Thunderbolts*, directed by Jake Schreier. He was supposed to play Sentry, but due to scheduling conflicts following the WGA and SAG strikes, the role ultimately didn’t materialize. It is a shame considering that Schreier and Yeun had previously worked together on the Netflix series Beef, where both served as executive producers. Ultimately, the role went to Lewis Pullman.

However, Yeun has stated that he would still be open to joining the MCU and is willing to listen to any offers. As of now, there have been no other media reports or speculation linking him to the franchise.
The story of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to pick up directly after the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the web-slinger starts life anew after Doctor Strange casts a memory-wipe spell. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to return, while new additions include Sadie Sink, though details about her role remain under wraps.
Fans continue to speculate about potential villains and surprise appearances while keeping a close eye on Marvel Studios for further updates on the next chapter in the friendly neighborhood hero’s story. The film will mark the fourth standalone outing for Tom Holland as Peter Parker and is currently scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. As for Yeun, he may have to wait a little longer for his opportunity to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
