There is good news for Marvel fans as one of the characters from the Spider-Verse franchise, Spider-Noir, is set to get his own universe. The darker, private-investigator version of Spider-Man will headline a live-action TV series. However, producer Oren Uziel has dismissed speculation about the Spider-Noir universe overlapping with the Miles Morales–led animated series.
“Same character, different universe,” says Oren Uziel
The Spider-Noir series will be released on Prime Video, with Nicolas Cage playing the titular character. The Hollywood veteran will portray the Spidey variant Spider-Man Noir, stylized in a 1930s black-and-white noir universe, wearing a trench coat, fedora, and goggles.
The character has already appeared in the Spider-Verse franchise, with Cage previously voicing Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and later returning for a brief cameo in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, the showrunner has made it clear that the upcoming Spider-Noir series will have no connection to the Spider-Verse saga.
In an interview with Empire, Uziel said, “It’s not a continuation of Into the Spider-Verse. Once Phil and Chris introduced the idea of the multiverse, I think you’re allowed to take things and make them your own.” The writer-producer is a longtime collaborator of Spider-Verse creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who also serve as producers on the show.
Uziel further stated that the goal was to present a version of Spider-Man that “no one had ever seen before.” He also revealed that Cage had a private screening of all eight episodes of the first season and apparently loved it, mouthing his own lines back with “pleasure and glee.”
“It was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever experienced,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the Spider-Verse franchise will conclude with its third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is expected to hit theaters in June next year. While the animated saga explored the multiverse through Wilson Fisk’s super-collider, the upcoming series will instead dive deeper into the Spider-Noir storyline, following the private investigator as he navigates the crime-ridden streets of 1930s New York.
The live-action series will release globally on Prime Video on May 27, 2026, and premieres on MGM+ in the United States on May 25, 2026.
