Sony is preparing two major Marvel releases in 2026. One arrives on the big screen with the next Spider-Man film. The other lands on PlayStation with a new Wolverine game. The projects are released only weeks apart, drawing attention from both movie audiences and gaming fans.
Two universes are moving closer
Insomniac Games plans to release Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15, 2026, for PlayStation 5. The game exists in the same universe as the studio’s Marvel’s Spider-Man series.
Creative director Bryan Intihar has confirmed that the characters live in the same world. Because of that connection, fans have started speculating about possible crossovers. The game follows Wolverine, also known as Logan, during missions that take him across locations like Madripoor and Tokyo. Insomniac is taking a darker approach to the character compared with its Spider-Man titles. Combat is more brutal, and the tone leans closer to Wolverine’s comic book roots.
Sony’s Marvel plans also continue in theatres. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will release on July 31, 2026. The film continues Peter Parker’s story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the world forgot his identity.
Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon also back in their roles. The cast also includes Jon Bernthal as Punisher and Mark Ruffalo returning as Hulk, expanding the number of Marvel characters appearing alongside Peter Parker.
Sony has recently reassessed parts of its Marvel strategy. Earlier spin-off films such as Morbius and Madame Web struggled to connect with audiences and underperformed at the box office.
Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures, has indicated that the studio plans to work more closely with Marvel Studios moving forward. A stronger collaboration could allow more shared storytelling and open the door for characters from other parts of the Marvel universe to appear in future Spider-Man films.
The release schedule places both projects close together. Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in July 2026, followed by Marvel’s Wolverine in September. With both stories set inside Marvel’s larger universe, fans are already wondering whether these releases could lead to bigger crossovers in the years ahead.
