Although the two stars share the same last name, they aren’t related, but the encounter between Alysa Liu and Simu Liu was one to remember. The 20-year-old Olympic gold medalist visited the star backstage at the historic Lyceum Theatre after catching the show. It was there that she met Simu, his fiancée, Allison Hsu, and the show’s crew. Sources say the actress spent as much time as she wanted talking to the cast, taking pictures, and enjoying the lively atmosphere backstage at the theater.

Everyone loved her. She stayed around forever backstage, talking with the cast and taking pictures. She was just the sweetest person.”

Interestingly, Alysa also made a friend of Allison Hsu, a former figure skater who is now in her current position at Interscope Records. Apparently, they exchanged phone numbers and talked about skating together in the near future.

However, that is not all. Simu Liu also got into some playful skating moves backstage while chatting with the Olympian. Apparently, Simu jokingly made spinning motions and even executed a double-turn while airborne before kneeling during the curtain call.

During her visit, Alysa Liu also joined the cast in a hilarious social media reel featuring a song by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson, titled “Stateside.” Apparently, the show’s official social media account posted a video featuring Alysa online and wrote, “The American Theatre called, and Alysa Liu answered.” Simu also joined the fun by jokingly writing, “Just a buncha Liu-natics,” in the comments.

The Broadway experience seems to have left a lasting impression on the Olympic champion. According to a source, Liu told the cast that she is interested in seeing more theater productions after enjoying the show by laughing throughout. She even confessed that her experience in live theater productions was limited to touring productions such as The Lion King, but that Broadway experience had officially opened her eyes to seeing more.

On a different note, Simu Liu is enjoying his Broadway debut in Oh, Mary!, where he stars as Mary’s teacher alongside Tony Award winner John Cameron Mitchell. The popular production continues to attract large crowds and has even broken box office records during its run at the Lyceum Theatre.
