Timothée Chalamet stole the show at the premiere of Marty Supreme in Paris. Not because he is a superstar, but because he made a comment regarding the price of the tickets for his movie. Marty Supreme is a drama movie produced by the production company A24. It premiered on Tuesday night at Le Grand Rex.
Timothée Chalamet jokes about Marty Supreme ticket prices
Timothée took the stage and spoke with the fans. He made jokes and complained about the price of the tickets for Marty Supreme. “I know they made you pay a lot. That has nothing to do with me; I’m not touching that money. I would have liked it to be free. Thank you so much for coming. Frankly, it was great to see you.”
Aside from his comments about the price of the tickets, Chalamet used his time to talk about the strong culture of film enthusiasts in France. Chalamet gave his speech in French, thanking his audience for their enthusiasm and talking about his feelings about being in France because it is a place where film is “loved and respected.” There is a big cinema culture in France, he said, referring to Marty Supreme as a “miracle movie” even though it is finding success in the United States.
Josh Safdie, the director of Marty Supreme, which was presented with his longtime collaborator Ronald Bronstein, talked about his film being written specifically for Chalamet. He talked about being given the chance to meet him when he was in his early twenties, seeing someone who had “enormous ambition and vision” who would be “at the center” of something like this film. “I met Timmy Supreme,” he said, crediting Chalamet’s ambition with being integral to the film’s existence.
Marty Supreme is set to open in France on February 18 through Metropolitan FilmExport, with critical and audience success on its opening night that film fans, in spite of the price of the tickets, will not forget.
