Odessa A’zion joins ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ amid backlash

Meanwhile, Odessa A’zion continues to move forward with the Stranger Things universe despite a growing degree of public scrutiny of other facets of her acting career. The actress has been officially cast in an upcoming animated series that will continue with the Stranger Things universe outside of Hawkins, Indiana. The series will be titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 and will premiere on April 23. 

This comes shortly after she was making headlines with her decision to pull out of another major production. The actress was originally announced as part of a major upcoming film through A24 titled Deep Cuts, a film that is based on a popular novel that has garnered a passionate fanbase. 

Stranger Things expands with Odessa A’zion casting

Almost as soon as it was announced that she would be a part of this film, a degree of online discourse began regarding the character that she was announced as playing, named Zoe Gutierrez, who was also announced as being half Mexican and half Jewish. Instead of ignoring this growing degree of public scrutiny, Odessa A’zion chose to speak out regarding it via social media. She announced that she would no longer be a part of this film, stating that despite understanding the fanbase of the book series, she was also at fault, as she had not read the book prior to signing on with the film.

A’zion later disclosed that, in fact, she had auditioned for a different role in the film but was instead offered the role of Zoe, which she accepted at the time. However, upon getting more information from fan feedback about the character, A’zion noted that stepping away from the role was for the best. A’zion also noted that many actors would be better suited for the role. However, the attention has once again been brought back to A’zion’s latest role in the Stranger Things series. 

Tales From ’85 is expected to introduce new characters and storylines while maintaining the essence that brought the series worldwide success. For A’zion, the animated series represents an important step towards her next role, as it represents her return to the spotlight, while the series has already captured the hearts of many fans. A comparison between the two reveals an important step for A’zion as she continues to look towards her future.
