WNBA star Angel Reese is officially taking her resume beyond the basketball court as she pursues a new endeavor in the entertainment industry. On January 20, 2026, Netflix revealed two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese will join the cast of The Hunting Wives in Season 2.
She is set to appear as a guest star with the title role of “Trainer Barbie” as the series moves on with the same ensemble cast that shocked the world of television as a surprising hit on Netflix in 2025.
From “Bayou Barbie” to “Trainer Barbie”
Nicknamed “Bayou Barbie” for her collegiate achievements with LSU, which took home the title in the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship, Reese is now a prominent figure in women’s sports. At just 23 years of age, she is now a member of the Chicago Sky in the WNBA, a two-time All-Star, and a member of the 2024 All-Rookie Team.
Reese’s decision to join television has sparked quite an interest in her career path, not to say that it is because of her popularity, but rather because of the type of show that she is going to be involved in. Reese made the announcement of her inclusion in the show herself, posting it on her Instagram account, where she can be seen taking part in a photoshoot in a director’s chair. “Trainer Barbie,” she posted.
The move did not come entirely out of the blue. In August 2025, Reese publicly praised The Hunting Wives on social media, calling it “CRAZYYYY but good.” After creator Rebecca Cutter thanked her for watching, Reese replied, “Just let me know if you need me for season 2.”
From the pen of writer Rebecca Cutter and in partnership with bestselling novelist May Cobb, The Hunting Wives is a drama series that centers around a group of affluent women in Texas who find their lives filled with lethal secrets. Although originally set to air on the Starz network, The Hunting Wives was picked up by Netflix even prior to the premiere of the series’s first season, which shattered viewership records to become the most-watched streaming series in the United States a month after its July 21, 2025, premiere.
Season two is currently in production in the US and will debut as a Netflix-branded series in almost every country in the world. There isn’t a debut date established yet.
Reese is the latest of a string of new cast members that also include John Stamos, Kim Matula, Alex Fitzalan, Dale Dickey, and Cam Gigandet. Reese joins series regulars Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, whose complicated relationship is the central theme of the series.
