Mount Olympus is getting a major boost. Dafne Keen, the actress who stole the internet’s heart in the movie “Logan” and was last seen in the MCU movie “Deadpool & Wolverine,” will be playing the character of Artemis, the Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt, in Season 3 of the Disney+ series “Percy Jackson & the Olympians.”
The casting, first announced in late August 2025, is a significant casting win for the franchise, which is set to bring “The Titan’s Curse,” the third book in Rick Riordan’s beloved fantasy series, to life. It is, however, a moment of franchise success for Keen herself, having just completed her role in Lucasfilm’s “Star
The hunt is on: Artemis appears on the scene
Season 3 begins a story arc that is rich in mythology and significant to the Percy Jackson canon, introducing the Hunters of Artemis. In the Percy Jackson novels, the character of Artemis is a figure who presents as being aloof but who is bound by a code of honor, with a love of nature that rejects the politics of the Olympian gods altogether. The significance of the casting of Keen in the role of Artemis is the establishment of a character of depth and darkness.
Keen joins a larger group of actors to form an ensemble with the introduction of many well-loved characters. Saara Chaudry will be playing the character of Zoë Nightshade, Artemis’s loyal lieutenant and a warrior who has been leading the Hunters for more than two thousand years. Zoë’s character takes center stage, as she is the central part of the story in “The Titan’s Curse.”
The new season will also introduce additional characters from the Olympus world and the world of the Titans. This season, the actress who will portray the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Aphrodite, will be the talented Kate McKinnon, while the role of Atlas, the general of the Titans who is cursed with the duty of holding the sky, will be portrayed by the talented Holt McCallany. Finally, the roles of Nico and Bianca di Angelo, the enigmatic children of Hades, will be portrayed by the actors Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie.
After the events in ‘The Sea of Monsters,’ Season 3, which will be released on Disney+ on December 10, 2025, is set to feature darker themes with more moral complexities. The overarching storyline revolves around the disappearance of Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), as well as the goddess Artemis.
Percy, together with the rest of the demigods and Hunters, embarks on a mission to rescue the children while dealing with the challenge of the Ophiotaurus, a rare monster with the potential to destroy Olympus. The story marks the series’ shift from having adventures that are episodic in nature to war-based adventures, much like the shift in the books.
The shooting for season 3 started in August 2025 in Vancouver and will go on until March of the following year. Although the release date has yet to be announced by Disney, based on the amount of visual effects that will be used to incorporate the mythical aspects in the show, the release may likely be in late 2026 or early 2027.
The response to the casting announcements has been mostly positive, particularly with respect to the casting of Saara Chaudry as Zoë Nightshade. The fans have been pleased with the level of detail being brought to the series with respect to the accuracy of the series and its characters, such as Zoë’s “coppery skin” and her “Persian princess” lineage. The casting of Keen has also contributed to the buzz surrounding the series because fans have pointed to her past work to ensure that she can handle the role of an ancient and battle-scarred goddess.
With Percy Jackson and the Olympians very much on course to receive its mythological ending, the introduction of Dafne Keen’s Artemis is, of course, an acknowledgment of one thing: that the gods will not be mere plot devices, but living beings whose deeds will carry real-world ramifications.
