Demi Moore says resisting AI is a battle Hollywood is set to lose

Demi Moore says Hollywood cannot win a fight against AI, urging filmmakers to adapt while insisting human creativity and artistic expression remain irreplaceable.

Demi Moore addressed the growing debate around artificial intelligence in filmmaking during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, arguing that Hollywood should stop treating AI as something that can be completely resisted. Speaking as part of the festival’s main competition jury, Moore described AI as an unavoidable shift within the entertainment industry while also insisting that human creativity remains impossible to replace. Her comments arrived during an already tense week at Cannes, where filmmakers and executives have openly clashed over the future role of AI in cinema.

Demi Moore suggests that Hollywood starts accepting the existence of AI in filmmaking

During the Cannes Film Festival main competition jury panel, Moore commented on her views regarding artificial intelligence. Instead of criticizing it, the actress described AI as a necessary component of the future of the movie industry. Demi Moore assured everyone that trying to resist AI would prove ineffective.

Moore insisted that “fighting it is, in a sense, to fight something that is a battle that we will lose,” pointing out that opposition does not lead to any productive result. At the same time, she stated that there is no need to fear losing the element of human creativity in movies since real storytelling originates in emotions and life experiences of people rather than algorithms.

However, when pressed on Hollywood’s current readiness to defend the rights of artists working within the industry, Moore confessed that she did not think that everything has been done properly yet. Her statement reflected her position during the 2023 Hollywood strike, which focused on the issue of AI in movies.

It is important to note that these statements from Moore acquired particular significance due to the fact that she serves on the Cannes main competition jury in 2026. This year’s Cannes jury consists of 9 members who have to select the winner of the Palme d’Or. The jury at this year’s film festival is headed by the South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook and comprises such names as Chloé Zhao, Ruth Negga, Stellan Skarsgård, Isaach De Bankolé, Laura Wandel, Diego Céspedes, and writer Paul Laverty.

It is also notable that Demi Moore is connected with Cannes in another way as she presented her movie The Substance in Cannes back in 2024.

The actress’ statements were published during Cannes’ controversial decision regarding AI in movies. The director of the festival, Thierry Frémaux, recently criticized the technology because it may lead to the loss of jobs for many people, including dubbing artists, translators, and writers. He went further and suggested that all future movies should have tags indicating that they were made without artificial intelligence participation.

These statements caused an instant backlash since Cannes signed a long-term sponsorship deal with Meta, a company which specializes in developing artificial intelligence technologies.
