28 years later is the perfect pick for those who love their horror movies done with a post-apocalyptic flair. The third movie was a complete banger, while the fourth movie, 28 Years Later: Bone Temple, didn’t do quite well at the box office. Here’s what Nia DaCosta had to say regarding that.
Nia DaCosta on 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’s box office performance
Nia DaCosta spoke to Empire about the reception of her movie 28 Days Later: The Bone Temple, as well as the overall box office performance, saying:
‘My friend said to me years ago, Nia, your career is for you to enjoy,’ and I really have been trying to put that into practice and take that to heart over the course of the past few years, and so when this came out, and it didn’t do as well in terms of the money it made, I was disappointed. But I also was like, ‘I’m so happy that when people find the film, they’re going to enjoy the film.’ I wish it made more money, but I’m really proud of it.”
The Bone Temple explores the events following the aftermath of the Rage Virus. It is set three decades after the breakout, in a world where NATO practices surveillance on the citizens who are currently in quarantine.
Ralph Fiennes plays the role of Dr. Ian Kelson, who acted out his role brilliantly. He is one of the very few survivors of the virus, and to enable and facilitate his survival, he carries out his mastermind tactics.
From convincing the cult leader to keep him safe and sound to making everyone believe he is Satan, Fiennes is thoroughly praised for his role in the movie.
It is indeed true that the movie didn’t do well at the box office, considering the earnings. The budget itself was 63 million dollars, while the gross earnings were around 58 million dollars or so.
While Nia DaCosta’s disappointment is understandable, the movie did receive positive reception and reviews on RottenTomatoes with an average score of 92% while receiving a rating of 7.3/10.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is available for streaming on Netflix.
