The season finale of the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy will be released on May 7. The series is currently in its 22nd season and has already been renewed for a 23rd season. This season sets up multiple high-stakes twists involving firings, life-threatening situations, and major character exits.

The series delivered one of its biggest shocks in the penultimate episode when Dr. Kwan gets fired. Even the last-ditch efforts from Miranda Bailey to cover for him during an Institutional Review Board investigation couldn’t save him from his abrupt exit from Grey Sloan.

Bailey had been protecting Kwan by taking the blame for injecting a patient with an FDA-unapproved hydrogel treatment in an attempt to save his life, which was against protocol. However, the cover is blown after Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) informs Bailey that the IRB has found out the truth.

Meanwhile, Owen Hunt got into a serious car crash, and his life is hanging by a thread. Moreover, as per reports, Owen’s wife, Teddy Altman, won’t be a series regular after Season 22. It is possible that the car crash storyline might be linked to their exit from the show.

“Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen—two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other,” the show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, stated, adding, “It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves.”

The show appears to be reshuffling its core cast ahead of Season 23, with characters who had been on the show for a long time potentially exiting. Fans can expect suspense as the show sets up for the next era of the series, along with a few tears as long-term favorite characters exit.
