Amazon is considering a reboot of the popular long-running series, The Apprentice, without its legacy host, who is currently the President of the United States. The show’s identity and popularity were mostly due to his presence in the show, but now a new host is reportedly being discussed. As per the latest media reports, internal discussions are taking place among top executives at the streaming company about the possibility of revisiting the project.

POTUS being considered as show host if reboot is greenlit, WSJ report

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Amazon is exploring the possibility of The Apprentice reboot for its platform, with POTUS, the president’s son, being considered as a potential host instead of his father.

However, in a statement to People, Amazon clarified that the talks are in very early stages, and the project has not been officially greenlit. “Any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

“Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for The Apprentice as a property,” the statement added.

According to the WSJ report, executives are brainstorming possibilities, and a concrete plan has yet to be developed. Furthermore, the company has not reached out to the POTUS family regarding the potential project, meaning there is no confirmed host or production timeline.

Moreover, sources close to POTUS told People that the WSJ report was the first time he had heard of being considered to host the show if it got the green light.

Notably, POTUS has previously appeared on the show as a boardroom advisor and is potentially being seen as a natural successor if his father isn’t hosting. Nevertheless, his involvement remains tentative and not locked in.

The Apprentice is a business reality competition where contestants take on corporate-style challenges, with one being eliminated each round by the host. The goal is to win a high-profile job or investment, made famous by the catchphrase “You’re fired!” The show ran from 2004 to 2015 with POTUS as host, before being revived as The New Celebrity Apprentice, hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, which went on till 2017.

This wouldn’t be the first time Amazon has collaborated with the POTUS family, with the company producing and distributing a documentary about Melania Trump titled Melania.
