In the movie, Lee plays Ann, the emotional backbone of the family, while Moura plays Jason, a protective father trying to stay calm under pressure. The film revolves around a family of four who are suddenly sealed inside their own home, with resources beginning to run out. Meanwhile, a mysterious, unseen threat keeps them trapped. The story leans heavily on family bonds under pressure, not just an external threat.
The Narcos actor was drawn to the idea of being “sealed in your home” with no explanation and was intrigued by how a real family would react in such a situation. The high stakes of the story are what drew him to the role.
“I was so intrigued by the notion of what it might mean to wake up one day and be physically sealed in your home — and not even understand why,” Moura told Tudum. “I think about how my own family would respond and handle something like that. I connected with the stakes of the film and the character on a deep level because of that.”
Meanwhile, Lee said she has always been drawn to “survivalist stories with a twist,” and the film gave her the opportunity to explore that on screen. She added that the movie grapples with several philosophical questions, which she found fascinating.
“Growing up, my favorite things to watch and read were survivalist stories with a twist,” Lee said, adding, “So I was immediately drawn to this story. I love the questions this movie asks about our world and how we choose to live in it. And I was excited about the possibility of asking these questions in a new and entertaining way.”
Director Louis Leterrier stated that the plot challenges “the idea of a safe haven” by turning a home into a hostile survival environment. The film focuses on how an ordinary family reacts when pushed to extremes.
The film also features Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa, and is produced by Chernin Entertainment and 3 Arts Entertainment.
