A lot has changed in the DC Universe since the conclusion of the 2018 TV series Titans, featuring Brenton Thwaites as D Grayson, aka Nightwing. With James Gunn managing both DC movies and television shows, fans wonder whether the actor will return as the comic superhero. Speaking with Maggie Lovitt of Collider, Thwaites not only addressed the burning topic but also shared his interest in reprising the superhero role.

Brenton Thwaites is ready for another stint as Nightwing

During his recent appearance at the Calgary Expo fan convention, Brenton Thwaites was asked about his comeback to the DC universe with another character. First, the actor gave a nod to Gunn and his craft, describing him as a “great filmmaker.” Then, he simply confessed to his inadequate knowledge of the vast DC universe and its heroes.

But if there’s any character he would love to take on, it is D Grayson. Thwaites believes the character was a “perfect fit” for him. “I’ve played characters where I still believe I’m not that guy, you know, and I’ve done movies where I am that guy, and you feel like it doesn’t go away,” he said. “I definitely feel like D Grayson, I was that guy.”

Moreover, he doubled down on his belief by sharing how the character’s values resonate with his own. “He’s inclusive, and he wants to do right by people,” Thwaites said. “He leads by example, leads from the front, there’s a lot of similar traits that I have with the character, and maybe that shines through in a mercurial, alchemical kind of way.

Created by writer Bob Haney and artist Bruno Premiani, the Teen Titans first appeared on the Brave and the Bold comic book series. The group consisted of the sidekicks of Justice League of America’s major superheroes. The original members included Robin, Wonder Girl, and Kid Flash. But in Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s The New Teen Titans, Robin expands the team by adding Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, and Raven, among others.

The new team formed the basis for the TV series Titans, which concluded after four seasons in May 2023. According to the latest reports, a new Teen Titans movie is in the works, with Ana Nogueira writing the script. She’s also involved with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026) and a new Wonder Woman project.

Meanwhile, DC Studios is also developing an animated movie, Dynamic Duo. It will explore the friendship between Grayson and Jason Todd, the Robin. Do you think Brenton Thwaites will get another shot as Nightwing in the new DC universe? Drop your thoughts in the comment section below.
