Marvel and DC comic artist Gerry Conway dies at 73
Gerry Conway passed away at the age of 73, and the news was shared on Marvel’s website. They wrote a long message expressing their condolences regarding the loss. The site also hailed his contribution to the MCU and celebrated his works as a prolific comic artist.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president, also shared his deepest condolences, saying:
“Gerry Conway brought real stakes to his writing, able to weave together sensational superheroics with the human and relatable, and in doing so created some of the most memorable stories and characters of all time. His writing has been hugely impactful across our comics, but it has also inspired so much of what we’ve done on screen. Gerry was a wonderful collaborator and friend to so many and will be dearly missed.”
Conway started his journey at the age of 16, when he first got his story published in DC Comics. It was one of the first horror stories that he worked on, which turned into an anthology.
This was back in the 1960s, when he exhibited his prowess as a budding comic artist. He was an avid comic reader and consumer, and it was this interest that sparked his journey as a seasoned artist later on.
Conway gave us some of the most iconic characters, including Ms Marvel, The Punisher, Ben Reilly, The Jackal, and he even wrote the story of how Gwen Stacy died.
His work wasn’t limited to just Marvel and DC, no. He also wrote novels for the Star Trek franchise, which not many know of. This only goes to show his range as a comic artist and a writer, but that’s not it.
He worked as a screenplay writer and even directed many crime shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Silk Stalkings, and so on. Conway’s passing is an insurmountable loss for both the comic and film industry as a whole.
