Cheer up, Quentin Tarantino fans; here’s some good news for you! For all the Zorro and Django fans, Sony has officially greenlit a crossover movie, and it sure looks exciting! Here’s everything fans need to know about this collaboration!
Sony approves Django/Zorro crossover movie
As reported by Deadline, Sony has officially approved a Django/Zorro movie based on Quentin Tarantino and Matt Wagner’s comic. The comic book series, written by both Tarantino and Wagner, is in the form of a seven-issue crossover series published by Dynamite Entertainment. The publishing house’s most notable work is The Boys, which was adapted into a live-action series by Amazon Prime.
Tarantino won’t be at the helm of this project, but he did give his blessings to the entire team working behind this project. He did, however, direct the 2012 Django Unchained, which became a cult classic from the 2010s era.
As for Wagner, he is a celebrated comic book artist, notably known for his works in both the DC universe and the Marvel Universe and as an independent comic book creator. Some of his works include Grendel, Mage and reimagined versions of Madame Xanadu, Doctor Nite, and so on.
It is reported that the crossover will expand on Don Diego de la Vega and his subsequent alliance with Django, who is out on a quest to hunt down his prey.
Brian Helgeland will work on the movie’s script, which is clearly in its pre-production stages. He previously worked on A Knight’s Tale, Legend, and Mystic River.
Earlier, Tarantino requested Jerrod Carmichael to spearhead the movie, but in 2022, the latter confirmed that the movie isn’t in the works. The reason is that the movie itself would cost 500 million dollars, as suggested.
With Helgeland at the helm of this project, things do look favorable for now. The cast, release date, and plotline aren’t revealed as of yet, but there are several speculations going around.
Regardless of that, some fans see this as having quite the potential, while others feel it would be mostly a hit or miss, mainly because Tarantino isn’t quite involved in it.
