The lighthearted and fun detective drama Private Eyes was a domestic success in Canada. The show ran for five seasons, ending on a cliffhanger. Now, as per the latest reports, its spinoff series has been picked up by the American broadcast network The CW for U.S. airing.

Core duo of Private Eyes remains intact in spinoff, as per reports

Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson will reprise their roles as Matt Shade and Angie Everett, respectively, from the original Private Eyes series. The new series shifts the scene of action from Toronto to Victoria, British Columbia, giving the show a fresh setting. The detectives will be taking on new cases with a new circle of allies.

It will be a ten-part series and will likely air in late 2026. It is essentially a cross-border expansion where a proven domestic hit gets scaled globally. The series is produced by Lionsgate Canada and Piller/Segan, with backing from Corus Entertainment’s Global Network.

As per media reports, the premise of the spinoff involves the core duo—Matt Shade and Angie Everett—leaving their private investigation firm in Toronto and starting afresh on the West Coast when they are drawn into a murder scene. A woman is found standing over her boyfriend’s body, a bloodied steak knife in her hand. Thereafter, they are drawn back into the world of private investigation once again, as they grapple with the challenges of cultivating a new network of sources and opening a PI firm in a new city.

“We are thrilled to welcome Private Eyes West Coast to our fall lineup and to continue working with the immensely talented Jason Priestley on another CW series,” President of The CW Network, Brad Schwartz said, adding, “We are also excited to expand our partnership with Lionsgate, as well as collaborate once again with the Piller/Segan team.”

“We love what the Piller/Segan team and showrunners/creators Jennifer Kassabian and Sarah Dodd have done to build on the story of Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson’s Shade and Angie in Private Eyes West Coast,” Jocelyn Hamilton, President of Television, Lionsgate Canada, said.

“The CW is the perfect network to deliver the next chapter of these beloved characters to audiences,” she further added.
