Season 1 of the romantic sports drama series Heated Rivalry was a major hit. The show performed strongly on streaming platforms and has been renewed for a second season. Now, an industry insider has revealed that the series is actively looking for prospective talent for a new character set to be introduced in the upcoming season.
Casting for “confident” Troy Barrett in full swing, as per insider
As per an industry insider, DanielRPK, the show is actively casting a new character for its upcoming season. The character goes by the name of Troy Barrett, described as a 25-year-old man who is “c—- and confident” on the surface, but whose exterior comes crashing down to reveal a hurt, sensitive side he has spent years trying to hide.
This suggests a multi-dimensional character—tough on the outside but emotionally layered, with a hidden, vulnerable side. Furthermore, as per reports, the role is not a one-off appearance and is expected to feature across multiple episodes. Whether the character evolves into a major supporting role crucial to the main storyline remains to be seen.
However, no new additions to the existing cast have been officially confirmed by the studio. Plot details remain under wraps, and Barrett’s connection to the main characters is still unknown. For now, this development should be treated as industry speculation.
Season 1 of Heated Rivalry ends with two rival hockey players, Shane and Ilya, finally admitting they love each other. At a remote cottage, they open up about their feelings, begin planning a future together, and are ultimately accepted by Shane’s parents after being discovered together. The show explores the pressures of masculine sports culture and the journey toward accepting one’s sexual orientation.
After becoming one of the most-watched acquired scripted series on HBO Max, the show has set high expectations for its second season, with its two leads gaining widespread popularity.
The second season is expected to premiere in April 2027, with filming scheduled to begin in August this year.
