Talks regarding reviving the hugely popular Rush Hour franchise are back in full swing. Jackie Chan had earlier confirmed that he was in discussions with the director about the script. However, recent media reports suggest that development on the project has hit a temporary snag over salary negotiations.

Rush Hour 4 hits temporary halt as initial salary offers rebuffed

As per media reports, the major leads of the Rush Hour franchise, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, have supposedly declined early offers for Rush Hour 4. They were reportedly offered $8 million each, which falls way below their compensation for the previous film. Industry reports suggest that both of them made approximately $20 million for Rush Hour 3.

Both actors are tied to the franchise’s success, and it would take a lot more than the current offer to bring the dynamic duo back on the screens again. This appears to be early-stage negotiations, and must not be considered as the final nail in the coffin for the project. However, the pay dispute has led to a delay in production.

Notably, the studio hasn’t officially greenlit or given a set production timeline for the project. Safe to say, the project now exists in development limbo, and its fate depends on whether both leads sign on.

In an earlier interview, Chan had stated that he was waiting on the director, the studio, and the writer to get the ball rolling for the project. “Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour,” the actor said while on a promotional stint for Karate Kid: Legends in May 2025. Furthermore, the actor has also reiterated throughout the years that he won’t be returning to the action-packed comedy IP if the script is not up to standard.

On the other hand, Tucker had earlier confirmed his interest in doing the film, saying that he loves working with Chan. The relationship between Tucker and Chan is what makes the buddy cop action-comedy movie series tick. It is their comedic banter and the high-energy action sequences led by Chan that propelled the movies to the heights of success that they achieved.

Now, it remains to be seen if Paramount Pictures ups the ante and gives the actors what they need so they can recreate the magic of yesteryears on the movie screens again.
