Comedian Nikki Glaser seems to be one of the hottest names in the industry right now. She was booked to host this year’s Golden Globe Awards and did a very good job entertaining the audience with her witty one-liners. Now, she has also been tapped to host the 2026 TIME100 Gala in New York, where she made a joke about the award-winning film KPop Demon Hunters.
Glaser jokes about KPop Demon Hunters’ cultural influence
At the 2026 TIME100 Gala in New York, Glaser aimed to make fun of the massively popular film, KPop Demon Hunters. The joke riffs on the animated film’s popularity, with its songs becoming an indelible part of pop culture. The song Golden was even performed live by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami at the 98th Academy Awards.
“This event is unique for more than just the scope of its honorees. It’s also the only ceremony of the year where the girls from ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ aren’t singing ‘Golden.’ We tried to book them, but they’re headlining a boat show in Boise,” Glaser joked.
The Netflix animated film had a massive cultural influence and put up record-breaking viewership numbers on the streaming platform. The movie also did well in the award season, winning Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song for the track “Golden.” The animated musical also dominated charts, with multiple songs landing in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 simultaneously.
Glaser’s roast wasn’t a dig at the quality of KPop Demon Hunters, but an homage to the film’s success in connecting globally. However, Demon Hunters wasn’t Glaser’s only target for the night, as she took digs at various high-profile celebrities, including Katy Perry, MrBeast, Victoria Beckham, and Hailey Bieber.
KPop Demon Hunters revolves around a world-renowned K-pop girl group, who work as elite demon hunters in secret, protecting humanity with their musical powers.
It is quite refreshing to see Glaser, who honed her skills in the comedy circuit for years, be given the opportunities to shine in such gala events, providing the much-needed exposure for bigger Hollywood pursuits.
